Whales, Puffins, and Porpoises

Today we drove from New Hampshire to Maine. The streets were full of people going under the speed limit. My mom was losing her mind. Texans never go under 70 on a highway. This was a 2 and ½ hour car ride that could have been made in 2 hours if my mom had been able to drive with some speed.

We were on our way to the Puffin and Whale Watching tour in Boothbay, Maine.  We made it well in time so we decided to eat lunch before going on the 4-hour tour.

When in Maine eat lobster!! Well some of us ate lobster. Mom and Tyler had a lobster roll and fried lobster. It was delicious!! I ate a chicken quesadilla. It was mid.

On to the Whale watching. The boat was pretty big. It had a second floor. We sat at the stern of the boat facing the water! Mom was excited to see any animal life. First stop, Puffin Island. We got to see quite a few of these little birds. They are a lot smaller than I realized.

Next stop - whales!! These creatures were elusive. One minke whale was spotted. The boat followed its progress so that everyone could catch a glimpse. Pretty animal.

The boat continued to a location ripe with plankton but no sign of those elusive creatures. As we were headed back into the marina, Taylor saw the tail of a big humpback whale, but we weren’t able to follow that up since we were running out of time and we needed to get back for the next charter to start.

From there we headed to our next hotel. We will be located here for the next four days while we tour Maine and all its different cities. We got to the hotel. It’s a cute little boutique hotel. Nestled on the banks of a river. We took our bags up to the room and then headed over to the restaurant for dinner.

It was a cute little restaurant where they had some outstanding specials. Tyler had a ribeye steak, smothered in mushrooms, which was his total jam, and Mom and I split a Caesar salad and homemade lobster ravioli. With full bellies, we went back up to our room and passed out.

We’re ready for tomorrow’s adventure of meeting up with Aunt Patti.
