Burgers, Bait and Bald Eagles
Fishing Day. For years our vacations always had at least one fishing trip. Russ loved to fish so we schedule a Maine fishing trip for strippers. Tyler and I were excited but Taylor - not so much.
This was one day we’re getting up early was not needed so the the kids slept til 10 while I got some great time on the balcony for morning sun.
Once up, we stopped for a late breakfast at Subway then we headed to Biddeford, ME to meet up with Owen - our fishing guide.
Our charter was set to start at 2 but was pushed back to 3pm. We grabbed a burger at Cow Bell then headed to the meet up location.
As we pulled up, Taylor took one look at the boat (a skiff) and was like - I am out. Y’all have fun but I am staying in land. Ty and I laughed then headed off on the adventure of fishing on the Saco River in a tiny boat.
We set out for the next 4 hours to catch us some stripers. The swells of the ocean were too large for us to go out in open water so we stayed fishing the river. Ty was the big fisher of the day. He caught a 42 inch 35 lb striper at the head of the river! It was amazing catch! This fishery is a little different then what we are used to back home. Stripers are only keepers if the range between 28 and 31 inches. Anything more or less needs to be thrown back for another day.
We moved to several location on the river to try and catch more but it was not in the cards. Ty and I had several more bites, but couldn’t get any more fish in the boat. However, we were able to see several bald eagles, a golden eagle and a seal which made the day that much more precious.
Once back on land we headed back to the hotels. It was about an hour and a half drive back. We stopped for a quick bite. I made it home in time to get some good rest for the next day. We needed to get an early start to meet Sam and Michelle and family at the Harbour for a sailboat ride.
