Espresso Martinis, Lobster Rolls, & Tyler’s Moody Swings

We woke up late as usual on this hot Boston morning with no real idea of what to do. We decided today was far too hot for the Freedom Trail, so we decided to get breakfast and then do the Boston Harbor boat tour. We had every intention of going to Tatte, a local breakfast and coffeehouse, but then Heather, the concierge hotel a.k.a., told us to try Billy‘s which she said had the best breakfast sandwiches in town. Of course, I somehow got us lost and turned around, but we ended up at Billy‘s and it was the best breakfast we could’ve asked for. It was inexpensive, delicious, and full of charm. It is a Boston staple for police and firefighters.

After breakfast, we decided to walk to the Boston Harbour, which was a lot further than we had all anticipated. Originally we were going to try to catch the T, which is the subway in Boston, but a man helped us outside of the building and told us that it would be easier to walk so we decided to try to take his advice. 3.3 miles later we were at our desired destination. Anyone who tells you Boston is small and then it’s an easily walkable city is a liar.

However, I will say the walk was gorgeous. We signed in with our Go City Passes at the Boston Harbor boat tour. We decided to give ourselves two hours to go to the aquarium which we had heard reviews about so we ended up booking our Boston Harbor boat tour for 2:30 PM. I’m sorry but anyone who tells you that the New England or Boston aquarium is super cool and worth the money is wrong. Was it cool? Yes. Were there penguins? Yes. Were there children running everywhere and screaming babies at every turn? Also yes. My literal hell. We toured the entire aquarium in about 30 minutes, but we did end up with a penguin plush of the penguin from Surf's Up so a win is a win.

We still had about an hour and a half until our boat tour so we decided to pop into Legal Seafood, which was right across the street for a little snack and a drink, and let me just tell you it was so bad. Then we had these lobster cones which were like puff pastries, made to look like an ice cream cone stuffed with lobster meat, and it was truly terrible. The lobster was tough and had a really bad fishy flavor and there was barely any in the cones! Three small cones were $45. Not worth the price at all.

Nevertheless, we powered on and naturally had to try the ice cream at the ice cream truck outside. Tyler got a chocolate soft serve in a cone while my mom got vanilla ice cream and a cup dipped in chocolate, and I had to have the sprinkles. It was so good until we looked down at our shirts and realized we had ice cream everywhere. The saddest part is we weren’t even drunk.

Finally, it was time for the boat tour, which was fun and we took so many pictures so you’re welcome.

After getting off the boat, we were all still pretty hungry since none of us had eaten anything at Legal so we decided to try Luke’s, which was a restaurant that Heather had also recommended. We all had the lobster rolls and we got the meal with chips and a drink and let me just tell you it was night and day compared to Legal. The roll was nice and buttery and the lobster was seasoned to perfection. I finally understand what all the hype is about.

This time we decided to Uber, but we weren’t ready to go home so we hit a thrift store. It was called the garment district, and it was unique. It was a small building in Cambridge with two stories that had anywhere from costumes to regular every everyday clothes and even downstairs there was a pile where you could find clothes and it was two dollars per pound. Tyler got a Troy Aikman jersey and a cool T-shirt.

Finally, after all the excitement and the sweat, we took an Uber back home where we all napped. Whoever said nap time is just for babies really messed us up as a society. Siesta’s are our jam.

With countless efforts trying to wake Tyler up, we finally decided to leave him at the hotel and we went to the observation deck to view Boston at the top of the Prudential Tower. We had drinks at the top, but let’s just say the rum and Coke was just rum with a hint of Coke and while I know my cousin Olivia and my aunt Lisa would’ve loved that, it’s just not my cup of tea.

Then we left the Prudential Tower and went to have some dinner at Pressed Café. We sat at the bar and I had an espresso martini, and my mom had Tito's and olive juice on the rocks. The drinks were amazing and the food was top-notch. My mom had a short rib, macaroni and cheese bowl and I had the smokehouse barbecue chicken sandwich and Tyler had the smash burger and let’s just say there was nothing left on any of our plates.

Three drinks later we decided we were gonna Uber home instead of doing the 1.4-mile walk cause let’s just say neither of us could walk in a straight line. In the Uber ride, we talked with Mohammed about AC prices and how they’ve become outrageous. He was our chillest Uber driver of the night. Finally back at our hotel, we showered and crashed into our ice-cold sheets while watching an episode of Gilmore Girls. Our first full day in Boston and we already feel like locals.
